THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for an experienced Payroll & Compliance Specialist to take full ownership of our end-to-end payroll function and compliance obligations across multiple Australian entities and jurisdictions.
This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who thrives on accuracy, takes pride in compliance, and is confident managing payroll independently. Working closely with our HR team, finance department, and our Head Office in the Czech Republic, you will be the go-to person for payroll processing, statutory reporting, payroll reconciliations, GST/BAS, and insurance administration.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Payroll Processing & Administration
· Process end-to-end payroll for all Australian employees — salary calculations, deductions, allowances, and job cost allocations
· Maintain accurate payroll records, employee data, and payroll configurations
· Manage payroll adjustments, rate changes, deductions (including fuel card, toll, and house damage recoveries), and employee changes
· Respond to payroll enquiries from employees and managers
· Coordinate superannuation administration, clearing house, and platform management
· Support employee payroll set-up for new starters
Compliance & Statutory Reporting
· Prepare and lodge Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting
· Assistance in Preparation Payroll Tax returns
· Complete QLeave reporting and reconciliation requirements
· Prepare WorkCover annual declarations and wage reports
· Manage PAYG annual reconciliation and reporting obligations
· Ensure ongoing compliance with applicable legislation, awards, and enterprise agreements
Payroll Reconciliations
· Reconcile payroll-related deduction accounts (fuel, tolls, house damage, and other employee deductions)
· Prepare month-end and year-end payroll reconciliations and supporting documentation
· Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies
GST / BAS
· Assist with GST and IAS reporting and reconciliations
· Support BAS preparation and compliance activities in collaboration with the finance team
Insurance & WorkCover Administration
· Manage the company's insurance portfolio including renewals, policy administration, and claims coordination
· Liaise with brokers, insurers, and external providers
· Maintain compliance records and supporting insurance documentation
· Manage employee health insurance cover — new enrolments, terminations, and ongoing policy administration
· Process and coordinate health insurance payments
· Assist employees with health insurance queries and claim support
· Coordinate Return to Work (RTW) planning and suitable duty arrangements for injured workers
· Liaise with injured employees, WorkCover insurers, and treating practitioners — maintain case notes and documentation
· Support RTW compliance and reporting obligations
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Essential
· Minimum 3 years' experience in payroll processing and compliance
· Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, awards, and enterprise agreements
· Demonstrated experience with STP, Payroll Tax, WorkCover, QLeave, and superannuation obligations
· Experience with payroll reconciliations and deduction account management
· Experience with GST/BAS reporting
· Insurance administration experience
· Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
· High attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and ability to work autonomously
Desirable
· Experience with Employment Hero Payroll and/or QuickBooks
· Construction industry experience
· Experience with SharePoint and Microsoft 365
· Exposure to multi-entity or multi-jurisdiction payroll environments
