Financial Controller – Operations & Reporting

Own the finance function.

Support purpose-driven organisations.

Help create better outcomes.

Giuntabell is a specialist finance, systems and advisory practice focused on supporting not-for-profit and purpose-driven organisations.

Through our Partnered Accounting Services (PAS) Division, we work closely with organisations as an embedded finance partner, helping improve financial reporting, governance, compliance, operational effectiveness and long-term sustainability.

We're seeking a Financial Controller – Operations & Reporting to take ownership of Giuntabell's finance function while also acting as Financial Controller for a select portfolio of Not-for-Profit organisations.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys combining technical accounting capability, client engagement, team leadership and continuous improvement.

Success in this role comes from being equally comfortable discussing business performance with senior stakeholders and understanding the accounting and compliance responsibilities that underpin strong financial outcomes.

About Giuntabell

Our goal is not simply to produce financial reports.

We help organisations improve financial visibility, governance and operational effectiveness so they can focus more time and resources on achieving their mission.

We believe finance teams should provide more than compliance.

They should help organisations:

  • make better decisions,

  • improve performance,

  • strengthen governance,

  • and create sustainable outcomes.

The Opportunity

Most Financial Controller roles focus on a single organisation.

This role is different.

Financial Controller – Giuntabell

Take ownership of Giuntabell's internal finance function, supporting a growing professional services organisation encompassing both Partnered Accounting Services (PAS) and Systems Accounting Services (SAS).

Financial Controller – Client Portfolio

Act as Financial Controller for a portfolio of Not-for-Profit organisations, supporting reporting, compliance, governance and financial decision-making while building trusted relationships with leadership teams.

Success comes from combining technical accounting capability, leadership, client engagement and practical financial guidance.

You will become a trusted finance partner to organisations that rely on timely reporting, sound governance and practical financial advice.

What You'll Be Doing

Month-End Close & Financial Reporting

You will:

  • Own and drive month-end close processes

  • Manage reporting timelines and close disciplines

  • Monitor close checklists and reconciliations

  • Review and investigate unusual balances and transactions

  • Prepare and review management reports

  • Perform variance analysis and financial commentary

  • Support budgeting, forecasting and cashflow planning

  • Contribute to continuous-close and reporting improvement initiatives

Statutory Compliance & Governance

You will be directly involved in:

  • BAS preparation and review

  • IAS lodgements

  • GST compliance

  • Payroll Tax

  • FBT

  • WorkCover obligations

  • ACNC reporting requirements

  • Year-end financial statement preparation

  • Audit coordination

  • Liaison with external accountants and advisors

This role requires someone who is comfortable understanding and owning compliance obligations, not simply reviewing work prepared by others.

Team Leadership & Support

Working alongside Assistant Accountants and Payroll staff, you will:

  • Provide mentoring and coaching

  • Support professional development

  • Review work and assist with problem-solving

  • Help maintain a positive and accountable team culture

  • Provide hands-on support when required

Client Financial Controller Responsibilities

You will:

  • Support a portfolio of purpose-driven organisations across reporting, compliance, budgeting, forecasting and financial management

  • Prepare and review management reporting

  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting

  • Support board and committee reporting

  • Work closely with CEOs and operational leaders

  • Provide practical financial advice

  • Build trusted relationships through responsiveness and reliability

Many of our clients are not finance professionals. The ability to explain complex financial information clearly and practically is essential.

Systems & Process Improvement

We believe finance should continually evolve and improve.

You will:

  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting and finance processes

  • Support automation and workflow improvements

  • Work across Xero and Sage Intacct environments

  • Collaborate with Giuntabell's Systems Accounting Services (SAS) team

  • Leverage internal expertise in finance systems, automation and reporting

  • Contribute to better finance outcomes across both Giuntabell and client environments

We value curiosity, initiative and continuous improvement.

We're looking for someone who is naturally curious, identifies opportunities to improve outcomes and exercises sound judgement in determining which changes will genuinely add value.

About You

You're likely someone who has spent the last several years:

  • Owning month-end close processes

  • Managing a small finance team

  • Preparing or reviewing BAS and statutory reporting

  • Working in multi-entity or multi-client environments

  • Supporting business leaders with financial insights

  • Improving finance processes and controls

  • Remaining hands-on when required

Most importantly, you still enjoy accounting.

While you've developed leadership capability, you remain comfortable working close to the numbers and understand the importance of strong accounting foundations, accurate reporting and sound compliance.

You understand that strong finance leaders don't just review the numbers — they understand how the numbers are created.

You are equally comfortable:

  • mentoring an Assistant Accountant,

  • reviewing reconciliations,

  • preparing or reviewing statutory reporting,

  • supporting a client CEO,

  • presenting financial results,

  • and solving accounting problems when required.

Essential Requirements

  • CA or CPA qualification

  • Experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or similar role

  • Strong month-end close ownership

  • BAS, GST and statutory compliance experience

  • Financial and management reporting experience

  • Experience leading or mentoring small finance teams

  • Strong Excel and analytical capability

  • Experience with Xero or comparable accounting systems

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Highly Regarded

  • Not-for-Profit sector experience

  • Sage Intacct experience

  • Multi-entity reporting experience

  • Client-facing accounting experience

  • Finance systems and process improvement experience

  • Exposure to close-management disciplines and structured month-end environments

Why Join Giuntabell?

  • Meaningful work supporting Not-for-Profit organisations

  • Opportunity to influence both internal and client outcomes

  • Diverse portfolio exposure across multiple organisations

  • Collaborative and supportive team culture

  • Modern cloud-based finance environment

  • Access to strong internal systems and finance transformation expertise

  • Sage Intacct Partner organisation

  • Growing organisation focused on innovation, governance and continuous improvement

  • Long-term Brisbane-based opportunity

You'll work alongside finance, systems and advisory professionals, drawing on expertise across accounting, governance, process improvement and Sage Intacct solutions to help deliver outstanding outcomes for clients.

What Success Looks Like

In your first 12 months, you will:

  • Own month-end close across multiple entities

  • Ensure BAS, IAS and statutory obligations are delivered accurately and on time

  • Build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders

  • Support and mentor finance team members

  • Improve reporting quality, timeliness and financial controls

  • Contribute practical insights that help organisations make better decisions

  • Help create better outcomes for the organisations and communities we serve

You will become a trusted advisor to both clients and colleagues – someone who helps solve problems, improves financial outcomes and contributes to the long-term success of the organisations we support.

A Final Word

This role is designed for a finance professional who combines leadership, technical capability and commercial judgement, and who still enjoys understanding the detail that underpins strong financial outcomes.

If you enjoy helping organisations succeed, building trusted relationships and remaining close enough to the numbers to make a genuine difference, we'd love to hear from you.
