Position Overview

As a member of the Development Worker Team, you will be responsible for building trusting relationships, providing mentorship, and fostering a culture of respect and inclusivity. Your expertise in supporting people with disability into socially valued roles, and person-centred practices will be essential in guiding individuals through life transitions and helping them develop valued community roles.

In collaboration with the person and their families/network, and Staffing Options’ colleagues explore, design and where required establish individualised support arrangements that will –

  • Engage support workers, team leaders/facilitators who have the appropriate skills, knowledge and experience

  • Induct, and provide ongoing and refresher training for the person’s support workers

  • Provide supervision and mentoring of support staff and/or team leader to achieve the person’s goals and outcomes, including the performance management of support staff as required

  • Create a culture where everyone feels valued and respected and the primacy of the person’s home over a workplace is considered

  • Keep the support focused on the person at all times

  • Communicate the person’s goals, clarify procedures and reinforce processes

  • Help team members commit and assist the person they support to take ownership of vision, goals and procedures

  • Equip support workers with the knowledge and skills to communicate effectively and respectfully with the person they are supporting

  • Tailor training to the specific needs of the person the team supports

  • Map networks and link formal and informal support, and identify gaps

  • Assist the person to establish networks, develop supported decision-making plans, engage in work or in the life of their community

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced professional who shares our commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities and their families.

  • Tertiary qualifications in social welfare or related fields are preferred

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role within the disability or aged care sector

  • Strong understanding of Australian statutory and regulatory compliance in the disability sector

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on conflict resolution and teamwork

The ideal candidate will demonstrate adaptability, ethical practice, and a proactive approach to problem-solving, ensuring that the needs of the individuals and families we support are met effectively.
