BESS Electrical Engineer

An exciting opportunity has become available for a BESS Electrical Engineer to join a growing renewable energy business delivering utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across Australia.
Working within a collaborative engineering team, you will play a key role in the design, development and delivery of grid-scale energy storage projects, supporting Australia's transition to a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.

The Role

Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager, you will provide technical leadership across the full project lifecycle, from concept and design through to commissioning and operational support. This is a primarily office-based role with occasional travel to project development and construction sites.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support across utility-scale BESS projects.
• Develop electrical designs for HV, MV and LV systems.
• Prepare technical documentation including:
  • Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
  • General Arrangement Drawings
  • Cable Schedules
  • Earthing Layouts
  • Bills of Materials
  • Functional Design Specifications
• Support equipment selection, sizing and technical evaluations.
• Collaborate with project managers, suppliers, contractors and clients throughout project delivery.
• Assist with commissioning, testing and technical troubleshooting.
• Contribute to energy management system design and documentation.
• Monitor system performance and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with relevant Australian Standards and industry requirements.

About You

You will be an electrical engineer with experience in renewable energy, energy storage or power systems and a passion for supporting the energy transition.
Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in electrical engineering.
• At least 2 years' experience working on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
• Strong understanding of power systems, grid integration and energy storage technologies.
• Experience preparing technical design documentation.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.

Highly Regarded

• Experience in technical due diligence, owner's engineering, advisory or feasibility studies.
• Knowledge of IEC, IEEE and AS/NZS standards.
• Experience using software such as:
  • AutoCAD
  • PSCAD
  • PSS®E
  • PowerCAD
  • PVsyst
  • PVcase
  • Helioscope
