About Sun Metals
Located just 15km from the Townsville CBD, Sun Metals operates one of the most technologically advanced zinc refineries in the world. We produce Special High Grade Zinc, Zinc Alloy, and valuable by-products including Sulfuric Acid, Copper, Cadmium, and Zinc Ferrite. Our process covers roasting, leaching, purification, electrolysis, and casting, supplying both domestic and international markets.
Our mission is clear: to be the best zinc refinery in the world — through safety, environmental leadership, and global competitiveness.
We are proud to be the first refinery worldwide to join RE100, committing to 100% renewable energy by 2050. From building Australia’s largest integrated industrial solar farm (125MWac) to developing the SunHQ Hydrogen Hub with Ark Energy, we’re leading the charge toward a cleaner future.
About the role
The Sun Metals site lies in the coastal zone adjacent to Cleveland Bay. The extensive monitoring conducted throughout the surrounding landscapes and particularly the aquatic ecosystems in the adjoining wetland areas, offer a particularly diverse opportunity to the successful applicant.
Reporting to the Environmental Superintendent, the Senior Environmental Advisor will provide subject matter expertise and guidance to the operation on the design and ongoing development of environmental programs, environmental compliance, regulatory approvals and reporting, environmental monitoring, data management, event investigation and auditing.
In addition to duties conducted at the Sun Metals site, this position also offers the opportunity to support our ship loading and unloading operations at the Port of Townsville.
