Our client is seeking an experienced Project Cost Controller to join their major projects team on a day-rate contract basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and detail-oriented finance professional to support the delivery of critical projects in a dynamic environment.

About the Role

As a Project Cost Controller, you will play a key role in managing project finances, ensuring accurate forecasting, cost control, and compliance throughout the project lifecycle. You will work closely with project managers, contractors, schedulers, and senior stakeholders to deliver robust financial oversight and support successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and forecast project budgets, including resourcing requirements, while liaising with contractors to secure accurate forecasts, work remaining, and estimated final costs.
  • Monitor and track project revenue and expenses, perform variance analysis, and identify and recommend cost-saving initiatives.
  • Provide input into change management, ensure alignment between forecasts and project scope, and review/approve project invoices and contracts.
  • Prepare project status reports, contribute to monthly management reporting, and deliver financial analysis and scenario modelling to support decision-making.
  • Partner with project teams to manage plans, risks and issues, and develop/implement effective project control processes while ensuring governance and compliance standards are met.
About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in a Project Cost Controller or similar role within major infrastructure, construction, utilities, or government projects.
  • Strong skills in budget development, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial modelling.
  • Experience with project change management, invoice approval, and stakeholder reporting.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with strong attention to detail.
