About Australian Maritime Systems

Australian Maritime Systems (AMS Group) supports the safe operation of Australia’s critical infrastructure—including ports, shipping channels, high‑security environments, and aviation safety systems.

Operating largely behind the scenes, our work is essential to keeping these systems running reliably and safely. When we perform well, it goes unnoticed—but if we don’t, the impact is immediate and visible.

As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Procurement and Inventory Manager to strengthen our procurement capability and ensure the efficient, reliable supply of materials and services across our operations.

About the role

Reporting to the CFO and leading a small warehouse team, you will take ownership of strategic procurement and inventory management across multiple sites. This covers logistics and the sourcing of equipment, goods and services that support our current activities and ongoing growth — with a clear focus on improving margin, cashflow and supply chain performance.

Key responsibilities

Evaluate and optimise purchasing practices, identifying improvement opportunities and leading the implementation of robust, scalable processes

Develop and execute purchasing strategies, overseeing day‑to‑day procurement to enhance margins, cash flow, and operational efficiency

Establish and manage preferred supplier arrangements, negotiating commercial terms to deliver sustainable cost advantages

Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and key supply chain partners to support effective procurement outcomes

Assess and manage supply chain risk, including supplier benchmarking, performance monitoring, and prequalification processes

Lead inventory planning, determining optimal stock levels and reorder points, and driving demand forecasting across consumables and projects

Oversee warehouse and inventory systems, ensuring effective controls for receipting, dispatch, and stocktake processes across multiple sites

Manage company facilities and site operations, optimising utilisation, maintenance expenditure, and service delivery across locations

About you

5+ years' experience in procurement and inventory management, ideally within a maintenance or project-based company

Significant knowledge and practical experience of purchasing and inventory systems

Experience managing distributed warehouses, stock and inventory, asset and procurement information systems

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including data analysis

Highly developed communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with employees and clients

Proven ability to work with limited direction, organise your workload and meet deadlines

Sound knowledge of WHS, quality and environmental management practices

A recognised technical or trade qualification will be highly regarded

What we offer

Join a growing Australian business where procurement and inventory have a direct, visible impact on performance. You will work closely with the executive team, take genuine ownership of the function across multiple sites, and help shape the systems and supplier relationships that support our future growth.
