About the role

We are seeking an experienced Workshop Operations Manager to join Fume Garage on a full-time basis at our Meadowbrook, QLD location. This role is pivotal to the efficient running of our workshop and will oversee all operational aspects of our automotive service facility. You will be responsible for managing workflow, staff, resources, and ensuring that our high standards of service delivery are consistently maintained. This position offers the opportunity to lead a skilled team whilst driving operational excellence and contributing directly to the success of the business.

What you'll be doing

  1. Overseeing daily workshop operations and ensuring all services are completed to schedule and to the highest quality standards

  2. Managing and supervising workshop staff, including mechanics, technicians and support personnel, whilst fostering a positive and productive team environment

  3. Scheduling and allocating work to ensure optimal resource utilisation and timely completion of all jobs

  4. Monitoring inventory levels and coordinating the ordering of parts and materials to maintain adequate stock

  5. Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, workshop protocols and industry best practices

  6. Managing customer communications and coordinating with the sales team to ensure customer satisfaction and service quality

  7. Maintaining accurate workshop records, including job tracking, labour costs and vehicle service histories

  8. Identifying opportunities for process improvements and implementing systems to enhance efficiency and reduce downtime

  9. Liaising with management on budgeting, staffing needs and performance metrics

  10. Conducting regular staff training and development to maintain technical competency and professional standards

What we're looking for

  1. Proven experience in a workshop management or supervisory role within the automotive or related trades industry

  2. Strong knowledge of automotive repair and maintenance services, with the ability to understand technical requirements and workflows

  3. Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff

  4. Outstanding organisational abilities with proven capability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

  5. Proficiency in workshop management software, scheduling systems and standard computer applications

  6. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively with staff, customers and management

  7. A solid understanding of health and safety regulations relevant to automotive workshops

  8. Problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically about operational improvements

  9. Customer service excellence and the ability to maintain professional standards at all times

  10. A valid Australian driver's licence

  11. Preferred: Qualifications in workshop management, supervisory training, or relevant automotive industry certifications
