The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a full-time spray-painting apprentice to join Shephard Transport Equipment at their warehouse in Larapinta, Brisbane.

Shephard Transport Equipment is a trusted supplier of quality spare parts for trucks, trailers, and tippers. Backed by industry expertise and dependable support, the company helps businesses across Queensland, New South Wales, and Australia wide keep their fleets operating efficiently.

Undertaking this four-year apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to become a qualified spray painter and earn your AUR32420 Certificate III in Automotive Refinishing Technology.

Job Details

You will learn how to prepare equipment and painting materials, mix and apply paints, and use spray coatings on trucks, steel truck bodies, chassis, trailers, and other transport equipment.

You will be responsible for:

  • Assisting senior team members with vehicle spray painting and refinishing
  • Preparing tippers, trailers, chassis, and steel truck bodies for painting
  • Sanding, masking, and preparing vehicle surfaces
  • Assisting with paint mixing and application under supervision
  • Cleaning and maintaining the spray booth, equipment, and work areas
  • Following all workplace health and safety procedures and regulations
  • Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe work environment

Hours:

You must be willing to work early starts and overtime as required. Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 5:00am - 2:30pm, with overtime during the week and Saturdays 5:00am - 11:00am.

About You

We are looking for candidates who have a genuine interest in a long-term career in automotive spray painting, would enjoy working on large industrial equipment, and are motivated to complete a 4-year apprenticeship.

  • Have the desire to learn and have a positive attitude
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Good safety awareness
  • Energetic and proactive, acceptive of change/cross training - willingness to learn and grow
  • Prepare to start early – 5am and work overtime during the week and Saturday
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and basic numeracy and literacy skills
  • Driver's licence and own reliable vehicle
  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment medical, drug & alcohol test, and police check
