About Us

The Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron (RQYS) is one of Australia’s premier yacht clubs, proudly serving its members and the broader sailing community from its waterfront home at Manly, Queensland. We are a busy, community-focused organisation with world-class facilities including a marina, clubhouse, slipway, and a fleet of squadron vessels and vehicles.

Our team is passionate about maintaining a safe, welcoming and well-presented environment for members, guests and staff.

The Role

We are looking for a reliable and hard-working Maintenance Assistant to join our Marina & Facilities team. Reporting directly to the Marina Manager, you will be the eyes and ears on the ground — conducting daily inspections of all squadron property and facilities, identifying issues, and making sure everything is in good order.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who takes pride in their work, has a sharp eye for detail, and enjoys working in a unique waterfront environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

•        Conduct daily walk-around inspections of all squadron buildings, wharves, pontoons and facilities.

•        Keep a sharp eye for incomplete or substandard cleaning across all areas and report to the Marina Manager.

•        Identify and report facility issues such as lights not working, leaking taps, blocked drains, and other defects.

•        Assist with the routine maintenance and care of squadron vehicles, vessels and golf buggies.

•        Carry out general maintenance tasks, including minor repairs, painting, and cleaning, as directed.

•        Maintain accurate inspection logs and report all issues and defects to the Marina Manager promptly.

•        Assist with set-up and pack-down for squadron events and activities.

•        Work safely at all times in accordance with RQYS WH&S policies.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

•        Previous experience in a maintenance, trade or facilities role.

•        A keen eye for detail — able to spot what others might miss.

•        Practical knowledge of general building and facilities maintenance.

•        Experience or familiarity with vehicles, trailers or marine vessels.

•        Valid driver’s licence (minimum Class C).

•        Sound understanding of workplace health and safety.

•        Self-motivated, reliable and punctual.

•        Good communication skills and comfortable reporting to a supervisor.

•        Friendly and helpful personality with a “can do” attitude

Desirable:

•        Relevant trade qualification (e.g. carpentry, plumbing, electrical or marine).

•        Experience in a marina, yacht club or marine environment.

•        Marine licence or small vessel experience.

•        First Aid certificate.

What We Offer

•        A full-time permanent role with set hours — Monday to Friday, 0700–1500 (flexibility for emergencies on weekends may be required)

•        A unique and enjoyable waterfront workplace.

•        A supportive team environment with a well-established organisation.

•        The opportunity to work with a wide variety of facilities, vessels and equipment.

How to Apply

If this sounds like the role for you, we’d love to hear from you. Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant experience to mar••••••••••@rqys.com.au or via the seek advertisement.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received, so don’t delay — apply today!
